Exploring Leadership in the Community
Exploring what we mean by leadership is a crucial part of developing ourselves and our community in Point & Sandwick.
Point and Sandwick Trust are working in collaboration with the Social Enterprise Academy to offer a free, 2-day leadership programme for eight locally-based people. The programme is designed to offer an introduction to theories of leadership, building confidence in your skills and support you to get involved in shaping organisations in the community and application is open to anyone interested in taking part, regardless of age, ability or experience.
Take time to develop your understanding of what leadership is and explore the kind of leader you want to become, regardless of whether you are in, or aspire to, a formal leadership position. You’ll connect with others working for social change and share valuable experiences as you start your leadership journey. The programme will help you to explore your leadership – traits, styles, motivations, strengths and areas for improvement. By learning together, and from each other, you will develop the skills to enable you to become agents of change within your community, with the ultimate aim of giving you the confidence to become involved with a Board - either as a member or in another capacity - and generally be more proactive in bringing about positive change across the villages of the Point & Sandwick district, and potentially throughout the islands.
During the programme, learners will get an opportunity to connect with relevant local organisations as we plan to hold a 'speed networking' event where representatives from local boards/organisations will be invited to get to know the participants and have lunch with you. Through the use of peer-to-peer activities, we will help you to identify a local organisation that's relevant to you, and that you would like to get involved with. You will then develop a plan of action for how you can get involved with the organisation in a manner which is mutually beneficial. The programme will also be followed up by a 1-1 coaching session for each learner which will support you to put your skills into practice.
Volunteering with or joining a board can be a great way to further develop your interests and hobbies, meet new people, make a real difference in your community, learn new skills, and much more! It is also a great way to learn new leadership skills that can be used at work, to enhance your CV, and for other interests. Why not sign up today?
Who is it for?
This 2-day programme is designed for anyone who is interested in developing their leadership skills (regardless of what level you are currently at), and would like to get more involved in the community. As well as encouraging applications from individuals who have never been involved in voluntary work in the Point & Sandwick area before, we also welcome applications from those who would like to develop their current work within the community.
