Community Leaders programme 2025
- The Community Leaders programme will enable you develop self-awareness and skills to support others to grow and thrive in you community. The programme will explore ways to effectively represent your community and engage with local organisations – supporting the integration of diverse communities in Scotland.
During this programme, you will:
- Access a supportive space to connect with peers
- Develop self-awareness and understanding of your role as community leader and the environment in which you operate
- Increase your confidence adapting to various situations
- Explore practical tools others in your communities
- Consider strategies for engaging effectively with your community and key local stakeholders.
Who is the programme for?
This programme is for refugees living in Scotland who would like to develop skills to support others in their community.
This programme is for you if:
- Have experienced the asylum system in Scotland, whether you are in the process of seeking asylum and/or have a protection status (refugee, resettlement, humanitarian protection, etc.).
- Have a level of English equivalent or above Upper Intermediate (SCQF Level 5, ESOL LEVEL 2 OR CEF B2)
- You have previous leadership experience (formal and informal, including volunteering and unpaid work)
- You are currently supporting your community
- You have the desire to take a leadership role in the community, supporting others and engaging with local organisations – contributing to the integration of Refugee communities in Scotland
- You think that the programme will help you develop leadership skills to support others to grow and thrive in their community and that it will help you engage more effectively with local organisations/partners
Programme Details
Please note that all sessions will run from 10am-4pm sharp, but you are welcome to arrive at 9.30am for a hot drink and to get settled in.
Module 1 – 23 and 24 June
Module 2 – 27 and 28 August
Module 3 – 24 and 25 September
Where: Glasgow, city center (venue to be confirmed)
Cost: The programme is fully funded. Lunch and refreshments are included. If you need any support with transport, accommodation or childcare, please let us know on the application form. Please note that it is not guaranteed.
Qualification
The programme offers the opportunity to complete the Social Enterprise Academy Award in Leadership qualification. This is made up of 1x 10-credit SCQF level 9 units or 'micro-credentials'. A micro-credential is a fully accredited stand alone qualification used for professional development. The SEA Certificate in Leadership is credit rated by Glasgow Caledonian University.
Gaining the qualification is optional, and you will need will have to have attended 80% (5 days) of the programme to complete it. You will need to operate in the right environment to be able to write the assessments. Some participants might not be able to gain the qualification.
