Developing Your Community Club
- Scottish football community clubs have been impacted hugely by the Covid-19 crisis and it is more important than ever to think about new ways of doing things. This programme aims to support community club leaders to explore innovative business models, income-generating ideas and new approaches to participation and membership models.
The Developing your Community Club programme has been designed to support club leaders develop their leadership confidence and skills, and it is tailored to the specific context and challenges leaders are facing. The programme will offer you the opportunity to plan and share ideas around increasing membership, attracting more players and understanding their vital role community clubs can play as social enterprises.
The programme will provide club leaders with core business knowledge, tools and skills that are critical in developing and sustaining their local community football club. Through covering key topics such as community engagement, business planning and partnership building learners will be able to confidently lead their club, volunteers and Board to create a thriving and lasting club for their community.
Who is it for?
Local community sports club leaders. This could be development staff, senior managers, board members and also SFA staff.

During the programme you will:
Strengthen knowledge and understanding of social enterprise and the innovative approaches to business planning and income generation that exist and that are emerging as a result of Covid-19
- Gain the confidence to lead your club and its people, especially managing change and transition
Develop an understanding of community engagement and participation and how to develop new approaches
Explore the potential of the clubs, the assets they have and plan for their growth and sustainability, developing innovative business plans linked to the Club Development Plan and establish activity and timelines to achieve key goals
- Gain an ILM Award in Understanding Social Enterprise (SCQF Level 9)
