The New Scots leadership programme is returning for its FOURTH year!
- From September 2024 - March 2025, 16 refugees/asylum seekers will take part in the fourth cohort of the New Scots leadership programme. Learners will be given the opportunity to develop strategic leadership skills, and access tools to create impact and build a strong community with other refugees living in Scotland.
During this programme, you will:
- Access a supportive space to connect with peers
- Develop the tools to step up as key leaders within your community
- Equip yourself with practical skills to help you understand yourself better; lead, motivate and inspire others
- Consider if you could take a more strategic approach to lead in your community, whether it is in the refugee community or the geographical communities that you found yourself in.
Who is the programme for?
This programme is for refugees living in Scotland who would like to build on their existing leadership skills, develop their resilience and become key leaders for their communities.
This programme is for you if you:
- Have
experienced the asylum system in Scotland, whether you are in the process of
seeking asylum and/or have a protection status (refugee, resettlement,
humanitarian protection, etc.)
- Are interested in developing your leadership potential so that you could assume a leadership role in Scotland (e.g. as a working group or core group chair or executive member).
- Are committed to participating in the entire year-long learning programme;
- Have a strong professional work history, this can include unpaid placements, volunteering and internships that demonstrates increasing development of skills and increasing responsibilities;
- Have desire and passion for exercising leadership in your community
- Have a level of English equivalent or above Upper Intermediate (SCQF Level5, ESOL LEVEL 2 OR CEF B2)

Please note that all sessions will run from 10am-4pm sharp, but you are welcome to arrive at 9.30am for a hot drink and to get settled in.

Cost: The programme is fully funded. Lunch and refreshments are included. If you need any support with transport, accommodation or childcare, please let us know on the application form. Please note that it is not guaranteed.

Qualification
The programme offers the opportunity to complete the Social Enterprise Academy Certificate in Leadership qualification. This is made up of 2x 10-credit SCQF level 9 units or 'micro-credentials'. A micro-credential is a fully accredited stand alone qualification used for professional development. The SEA Certificate in Leadership is credit rated by Glasgow Caledonian University and includes the following units:
Unit 1: Leadership
Unit 2: Action Learning in Practice
Gaining the qualification is optional, and you will need will have to have attended 80% of the programme to complete it. You will need to operate in the right environment to be able t write the assessments. Some participants might not be able to gain the qualification.
All learners, however, receive a Certificate of attendance in the end of the programme, which is not a qualification but certifies that you have attended the New Scots leadership programme.

AYESHAH KHAN - Ayeshah is passionate about community and works tirelessly to advocate for social justice. Having worked alongside SEA for a considerable period of time and in the third sector since 2002, Ayeshah is a champion for local peoples rights and a voice for those who are marginalised. Q&A Sessions
If you're wondering if this programme is for you, the Scottish Refugee Council (SRC) and the Social Enterprise Academy (SEA) will be running online Q&A sessions. It will provide an opportunity to learn more about the New Scots Leadership programme and the eligibility criteria. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions to representatives from SEA and SRC.
